On Christmas Eve, 25 years ago, I met someone truly inspiring--Father Francis, the larger-than-life leader of the St. Francis Food Pantries. Devoting his life to serving New Yorkers in need, Father Francis started the St. Francis Food Pantries in a church basement on 30th Street, giving out canned food and staples. Today the Food Pantries feed the hungry, counsel the addicted, and support victims of domestic violence, all with grace, compassion, and humility. For perspective, the Food Pantries give many thousands of cases of food, clothing, diapers and other staples to centers throughout the five boroughs, serving some twelve to fifteen thousand clients every year. All delivered with respect for the dignity of those they serve.
On November 6th I will run the New York City Marathon--my fourth marathon. The first was in 2003, when friends and family helped raise $25,000 for the Cabrini Missionary Sisters, a group of selfless women who are also dear to the hearts of Patrick, Tom, Caroline, and me. This year our goal is to match that effort in support of St. Francis Food Pantries, and I am asking for your help. I am confident that Running for Hunger will inspire my run through the five boroughs and across the finish line in Central Park. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your consideration and support.
Together...for New York's neediest...in the words of The Boss...
Come On, RISE UP!
I am honored to be running the 2016 Marathon for St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters. This is an organization that changes our neighbors’ lives in their time of need. I got involved with St. Francis through the company I work for, Johnson Controls. I work as an Account Executive, selling HVAC Equipment and Controls to the NYC Market. Johnson Controls worldwide generously contribute their talent, resources and time annually to make a difference throughout the world. I look forward to becoming more involved with St. Francis and the incredible work they do.
Running the NYC marathon for Teen for Kids/ St. Francis Food Pantries charities is a distinguished honor for me. I have worked with JCI for 10 years where I have worked for the service department in different roles in my tenure. This will be my second NYC marathon and the first time being part of such a great cause. I look forward to being involved future charitable events with St. Francis Food Pantries.
